Interviews Begin For DEQ Environmental Justice Study During phase one of the environmental justice study, Skeo completed research and an assessment of DEQ’s statutory authority across air, water and land programs. [ more ] DEQ Receives Grant Funding to Improve Water Quality in the Commonwealth The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded DEQ a $437,900 grant to protect the commonwealth’s water quality, which will be used for a multifaceted project to integrate water quality planning with disaster preparation and mitigate damage from future weather events. [ more ] Water Board Adopts Regulations and Approves Groundwater Permits On Dec. 13, the State Water Control Board approved groundwater withdrawal permits for 45 poultry operations on the Eastern Shore and adopted a new regulation, Certification of Nonpoint Source Nutrient Credits, 9VAC25-900, as final. [ more ] Waste Board Moves Forward With Regulated Medical Waste Enhancements At its regular meeting on Dec. 9, the Virginia Waste Management Board approved DEQ's recommendation to amend the regulated medical waste regulations in order to modernize, streamline and enhance the general handling and treatment of RMW across the state.
